Former Colts' QB reportedly gets head coaching interview with Bills

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Phillip Rivers is reportedly interviewing for the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Bills moved on from long-time head coach Sean McDermott following the team’s playoff loss to Denver.

It was reported by Ian Rapoport earlier this month that teams had previously done their research on Rivers as a potential head coach candidate.

Rapoport added that teams have already been doing their research on Rivers and making background calls.

In an effort to make one last playoff push, Rivers came out of retirement after nearly five full seasons away from the game to start for the Colts after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

The Colts would go 0-3 in those games, but Rivers provided stability at the quarterback position and gave Indianapolis a chance in those games.

Rivers’ ability to step in on the fly after five years away from the NFL and find success, while often doing so pre-snap, where he made adjustments based on what the defense was doing, helps illustrate the deep understanding he has.

Rivers has spent his time away from the NFL coaching high school football.
