Colts offseason preview: State of offensive tackle position in 2026

2025 season review

Raimann continued to play at a high level for the Colts at left tackle. By PFF’s grading system, Raimann ranked 13th among all tackles in pass-blocking grade. In the run game, he ranked third in ESPN’s run-block win rate metric.

As Braden Smith has done for a number of years, he provided a steady presence at right tackle. However, an injury in Week 14 ended his season early.

Taking over for Smith was rookie Jalen Travis, who was able to hold his own. Over 175 pass blocking snaps, Travis allowed 12 pressures and just one sack. For what it’s worth, he graded out well as a run-blocker by PFF’s metrics.

Overall, PFF had the Colts’ offensive line unit rated as one of the best in 2025.

What is the level of need at offensive tackle for the Colts this offseason?

Smith, who is set to be a free agent, could end up playing elsewhere in 2026 if the Colts are comfortable with what they saw from Travis down the stretch. Smith is also projected to land a deal in free agency that could be outside of Indianapolis’ price range.

We saw last offseason that the Colts were willing to move on from Ryan Kelly and Will Fries at that time in favor of then-second-year players Tanor Bortolini and Matt Goncalves.

However, even if the Colts go into the offseason with their two starting tackles already on the roster, adding depth and competition to this position group should be a must. Blake Freeland has barely seen the field since 2023 and there is none of the other players have NFL experience.
