Colts lose third offensive starter to injury vs Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Indianapolis wide receiver Alec Pierce declined to answer a question about the injury that knocked him out of the final Colts offensive drive of Sunday’s 36-19 loss to the Jaguars.

Pierce got up slowly after making an apparent touchdown catch, only to have the catch overturned. Trainers examined Pierce on the bench first, then in the team’s injury tent.

The television broadcast initially reported Pierce was being evaluated for a concussion, but Pierce was available for interviews after the game; NFL players are not allowed to speak to the media while in concussion protocol.

“You can ask the trainers,” Pierce said. “Not going to talk about injuries.”

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen did not have an update on Pierce after the game.

Asked a follow-up question about how he felt, Pierce kept it short and sweet.

“Feel good,” Pierce said.

Pierce is having an excellent season in the final year of his rookie deal. He had five catches for 80 yards on Sunday, bringing his season totals to 38 catches and a team-leading 769 yards while teaming well with quarterback Daniel Jones, who suffered an Achilles injury on Sunday that the Colts fear will knock him out the rest of the season.

“I really still haven’t processed it yet,” Pierce said. “I still need to go talk to him and stuff. Feel terrible for him. You never want to see that happen. He already was putting so much on the line for us, dealing with other injuries.”
