Colts GM Chris Ballard was asked his biggest regret, his answer

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard was asked on the Ringer’s The McShay Show his biggest regret in his 10 seasons with team.

The answer isn’t a surprise: Quarterback.

“Not being able to solidify that position for the organization has been extremely, extremely humbling,” Ballard said. “What I’ve learned going through that is that like you gotta continue, you can’t get timid about taking shots at the position. You gotta just keep firing away and taking the bullets because you are always going to get bullets anyways, so just keep firing away until you get it right.”

Since the retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts have seemingly been in a non-stop quarterback carousel. Ballard’s answer made it clear the position isn’t an easy fix and can be more of a ‘trial and error’ until it is ultimately corrected. The theory? If it doesn’t work, try again until it does.

“You can’t lose your confidence,” he said. “You gotta learn and grow from why you made the mistake you made.”

In the Post-Andrew Luck era, the Colts have trotted out 12 different starting quarterbacks since 2019. With current uncertainty surrounding the Colts at the position for next season, there is no guarantee the long-term solution has been deciphered.
