The Indianapolis Colts accomplished a feat in Sunday’s Week 1 win over Miami that hasn’t been done in the NFL since 1977.
According to ESPN research, the Colts scored on all seven of their possessions in their Week 1 game, the first team to do so in 48 years.
Not only was Sunday’s win the Colts’ first Week 1 win since the 2013 season, but this was one of the best all-around performances from a Shane Steichen-led team in all three phases. This game was the definition of complementary football.
The special teams unit capitalized on field goal opportunities. The defense forced three takeaways and had the Miami offense guessing the entire game.
The offense then turned those takeaways into points, and with Daniel Jones at the helm, that unit moved the ball up and down the field.
In fact, here’s another stat to highlight just how impressive this performance was: The Colts averaged 4.71 points per drive, which is more than they had in any regular-season game with Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck at quarterback, according to Rich Hribar.
So this win for the Colts wasn’t just a good win; it was a dominant one, as the stats illustrate.
