LAFAYETTE, IN — Police arrested a nanny Tuesday on suspicion that she was assaulting the 1-year-old girl she was paid to watch, according to Lafayette police.
Police received the report about 10:35 a.m. Tuesday from the child’s parents, who presented video recordings of Morgan Simpson, 25, striking the child and shaking the girl in response to the child’s crying, according to police.

The crimes happened in a home in the 600 block of Main Street, and Simpson was arrested later Tuesday at her apartment in the 1700 block of North Ninth Street, according to police and jail records.
Officers jailed Simpson shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of neglect of a dependent and battery on a person younger than 14, according to Tippecanoe County Jail records. She remained incarcerated Wednesday afternoon in lieu of a $500 cash bond and a $5,000 surety bond, according to jail records.
