It took seven tries and nearly a month, but Butler’s 93-89 win over Georgetown clinched coach Thad Matta’s 500th win of his career.
Yame Butler’s two free throws with three seconds left clinched the victory.

Michael Ajayi led Butler with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Finley Bizjack (wrist) returned to the lineup after missing Sunday’s loss to Seton Hall adding a game-high 19 points.

What Butler basketball’s win at Georgetown means
The win showcases Butler’s offensive firepower. Against a Georgetown team that struggles to defend, even a shorthanded Bulldog squad can score enough to exploit their mismatches. Wednesday’s game against a team that is poor on both ends of the floor was the ideal matchup for Butler. The Dawgs must show they can score against quality defenses and defend against quality offenses if they want to ascend from the Big East basement.
