When the SEC announced that it would move to a nine-game conference schedule, it mentioned that teams scheduling more Power Five programs and Notre Dame would be in the cards.
Well, it didn’t take long for one of its members to announce a home-and-home with the Irish. On Wednesday afternoon, Pete Thamel reported the Irish and Auburn Tigers will face each other in 2027 and 2028. The first game will be in South Bend.
Plenty of interesting storylines exist with these games, especially on the Tigers side. They recently fired coach Hugh Freeze and could be trying to bring in a big name if possible. Former Notre Dame quarterback commit Deuce Knight is still with Auburn, but he hasn’t played much and could enter the transfer portal.
This was one of five SEC teams I wanted Notre Dame to schedule. We’ll see if any more on my wish list happen, but this is a great start for the Irish getting Southeastern Conference teams on the schedule.
