One of the best in the NFL draft business, Dane Brugler of The Athletic, recently updated his top 100 prospects big board. So let’s break it down by positions from the Indianapolis Colts’ perspective.
As we know, the Colts are without a first-round pick in this year’s draft. Their first selection will come on Day 2, where they have two picks — one in the second round and one in the third round.

In parentheses are the number of prospects at each position in Brugler’s top 100.
Quarterbacks (3)
On paper, this is a huge need, but all signs point to the Colts re-signing Daniel Jones. They also have Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson under contract. This will not be an early-round need for Indianapolis.
Running back (3)
Adding some experience depth to provide competition behind Jonathan Taylor wouldn’t be a bad idea, but that’s not a top-100 level need.
Wide receiver (17)
A very talented draft class. It’s possible that one of Michael Pittman or Alec Pierce isn’t on the Colts roster this season, which would create a need. But again, I’m not using a top 100 pick on this position.
Tight end (5)
A blocking presence to pair with Tyler Warren would be a valuable addition, given how often Shane Steichen uses two tight end sets. More bodies are needed here as well. But this is a need to address on Day 3.
Offensive tackle (9)
Could this be a sneaky early-round pick? Braden Smith is a free agent, and Jalen Travis has limited experience. My guess, however, is that the Colts are comfortable with starting Travis and add late round depth behind him.
Interior offensive line (9)
There is no such thing as too much offensive line depth, but I don’t envision this being an early-round priority.
Edge rusher (15)
Addressing this position has to be at the top of the to-do list for Chris Ballard, and the good news is that there is a lot of talent.
Defensive tackle (9)
Depth is needed here, and with DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart each entering the final year of their deals, some planning ahead and getting younger at the tackle spot wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Linebacker (11)
An added coverage presence to pair with Zaire Franklin is needed.
Cornerback (13)
If healthy, this is a well-put-together position group already for the Colts. Using a top 100 pick here isn’t necessary.
Safety (7)
A sneaky need with Nick Cross hitting free agency. Maybe Hunter Wohler can be the answer next to Cam Bynum, but relying solely on a seventh-round pick who missed his entire rookie year to injury is risky.
