Gov. Mike Braun will give his second annual State of the State speech at 7:30 p.m., capping off an eventful first full year in office.
Braun followed through on some of the promises in his first State of the State speech, such as reforming property taxes and cutting state agency spending. But it didn’t all go smoothly: his property tax reform effort was diluted in the legislature and is currently being tweaked this legislative session amid concerns from city and town governments.

The governor has also taken a different approach to economic development, initiating an audit of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and focusing on boosting pre-existing Indiana businesses rather than attracting big out-of-state deals. The IEDC is now paying significantly less per incentivized job, though some have criticized Braun for lacking a comprehensive strategy.
Braun’s first calendar year in office came to a tumultuous end when Indiana lawmakers rejected mid-decade redistricting against his will. The public spat with Senate Republicans, most of which opposed redistricting, will likely complicate Braun’s ability to pass his legislative agenda, political science experts said.
