Two men were arrested on Monday, June 8, by Bloomington police in connection with shots that were fired in a westside apartment in the 500 block of West Hays Court on the morning of June 3. One man, a transient, was arrested on weapons and burglary charges; the other, a Bloomington man, on burglary charges.
According to court documents, the transient man entered the apartment while the owner was upstairs and her sister downstairs. The second man remained outside the apartment. The man inside the apartment then fired two or three shots from a 9mm handgun. Both then fled the scene before police arrived.
At least three bullet holes were located in the apartment, according to court documents. Police searched nearby apartments and discovered the bullets had traveled through the walls into an adjacent apartment where several people, including children, were present. No one was injured.
The identities of the two men were determined by eyewitnesses as well as surveillance footage.
On June 8, police found and arrested both of the men while they were in the 2400 block of South Winslow Court. They were taken into custody and transported to Bloomington Police Department for interviews before they were taken to the Monroe County Jail. The transient man faces Level 2 felony and Level 5 felony charges for burglary, criminal recklessness and intimidation with a deadly weapon. The second man was charged with Level 2 felony burglary and Level 5 criminal recklessness.
