The Chicago Bears are sitting winless through the first two weeks of the 2025 season. The beginning of the Ben Johnson era has not gotten off to the best start, as Chicago has dropped two brutal losses to divisional opponents.
Now, the Bears have an interesting Dallas Cowboys team coming to town. Dallas is loaded with offensive weapons, but they don’t play defense well. They also don’t have their potential future Hall of Fame edge rusher anymore, as they traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
If the Bears have any hope of resurrecting the season and having a chance at the playoffs, they must win this weekend when they face the Cowboys. This is their last chance.
If the Bears go 0-3 and head to play the Las Vegas Raiders, they could be 0-4 or 1-3 going into the bye week. That is far from where they needed to be if you looked at it going into the season. It’s bad enough that being 2-2 is their best-case scenario.
Things do not get any easier after the bye week. In fact, they get much more difficult. Games against the Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and more divisional matches await the Bears later this year. If they don’t go into those feeling much better, their end-of-season record will not be pretty.
What do the Bears need to do to beat the Cowboys and get out of this rut? Well, they need to get their offense to another level. It has been okay so far, but they have also gone up against two teams that each won 14-plus games last year. This is their chance to play a weaker defense and see what they can do.
Can Chicago’s defense provide what they need to hold off Dallas just enough? It’s fair to have a non-existent amount of confidence in this happening, but it must be for the Bears to have a shot.
This is the one final shot to resurrect the season. If Chicago doesn’t win, they might as well just start focusing on the development of young players because history says they won’t be going to the playoffs.
