WASHINGTON — For the first time, Washington boys soccer is elite.
The Panthers defeated Normal West 2-0 to win a Class 2A sectional championship on Saturday at Babcook Field.
Washington (27-1-1) got two goals in the final 90 seconds of the second overtime to win its first sectional title in program history and extend its school record for victories.
Isaac Reetz and Hudson Scrivner had goals for the Panthers, who now advance to the Elite Eight. The Taylorville Supersectional is 5 p.m. Monday against Belleville Althoff (25-2-1), a 3-1 winner over Chatham Glenwood on Saturday.
The winner of that game advances to the Class 2A state semifinals next weekend in Hoffman Estates.
