Teenage girl shot while sitting in vehicle in Peoria

A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized early Friday morning after she was shot in South Peoria.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of South Western Avenue at 2:35 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert of 15 rounds fired at the scene. No victims were located.

However, 10 minutes later, officers were told that a teenager had arrived at a local hospital via private vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the leg. The girl told officers that she was sitting inside a vehicle on Western Avenue when an unknown subject began firing into the car and hit her. Her injuries were non-life-threatening.

No information is currently available on a suspect, and the case remains under investigation.
