Springfield wellness center Peace, Love and Sweat closes until August

SPRINGFIELD – A local wellness center specializing in infrared sauna therapy closed last month, but the owner is not saying goodbye forever to the capital city.

Peace, Love and Sweat closed on May 31 at 3450 Liberty Drive after five years, according to owner Ann Cowhick, who posted to social media the day of the closure.

Starting from a long history of traditional sauna use and exploring the wellness practice of infrared, Cowhick opened Peace, Love and Sweat in 2020 and expanded to candles, cold plunges, massages, yoga, smoothie bowls and Lotus Energy drinks.

“Literally, we accomplished so much and couldn’t have done it without our incredible client base, referrals from all of you amazing people and amazing staff through the years,” Cowhick wrote on social media. “This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later.”

As part of the temporarily closure announcement, Cowhick announced the business will reopen near the end of August in a new location.

She carried on saying she made the decision to move into a new space with her current lease ending so the business could grow in both size and offerings.

The new location has yet to be announced.

The Wellness market

While some chalk up personal wellness to being good to your body and taking a handful of daily supplements – to others it’s a chunk of the monthly budget to protect their body and mind.

The global wellness market is a $2 trillion industry, according to Mckinsey.com, which reported in the fourth year of fielding the Future of Wellness which focuses on six dimensions of wellness—health, sleep, nutrition, fitness, appearance, and mindfulness.

The organization surveyed more than 9,000 consumers across China, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States to see younger consumers are conceptualizing wellness in new ways and disproportionately spending in the wellness market.

Nearly 30% of people born between 1997 to 2012 reported prioritizing wellness compared to their care in 2024 to deal with higher levels of burnout and stress.

That higher percentage translates to dollars spent, with Gen Z making up 41% of annual sales in the wellness industry.
