SPRINGFIELD – A possibility for severe storms on March 6 will coincide with summer-like temperatures.
The Springfield area is in a risk area for severe storms, including hail, strong winds, and tornados, but weather models as of March 4 show storms happening more so in Iowa and Missouri, said Kirk Huettl, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Lincoln.

Potential storms would come to the Springfield area around Friday night.
But warm weather is on the way, too.
Friday, March 6 shows a high near 77.
March 7 shows a high near 61, and March 8 shows a high near 65.
And all this weather mashup comes after Springfield saw a hailstorm on March 3, as well as heavy rain, lightning and thunderstorms.
Springfield saw 2.74 inches of rain from the morning of March 3 to the morning of March 4.
For the calendar day on March 3, a new record for rainfall was set at 2.3 inches, with more rain happening overnight. The previous record was 1.6 inches in 2023
“We definitely needed the rain and hopefully we get some more,” Huettl said.
There have been no reports of flooding in Springfield — just minor pinning of water on the streets for a time during the heavier rain.
