Springfield area Week 6 high school football results, top performers

The high school football season resumes with Week 6 on Friday, Oct. 3.

Top Performers

Colten Knoedler/Haden Kirk, Chatham Glenwood

Knoedler, a senior quarterback, hooked up with the sophomore Kirk for three touchdown passes in Glenwood’s 42-0 victory over Normal U-High in a Central State Eight Conference East Division matchup. Kirk’s TDs covered 66, 7 and 48 yards to give the Titans a 21-0 lead. Knoedler added an 8-yard TD run in the first half.

Tanner Beal, Rochester

The senior quarterback completed 11 of 16 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns as Rochester defeated Decatur Eisenhower 63-24 in the Central State Eight Conference East Divison. Wide receiver Tristan Stanton caught three passes and scored twice, while running back David Kates had two TDs on six carries and 78 yards.

Matthew Miller, Williamsville

The senior running back racked up 322 yards of offense in a 45-14 win over Athens at Paul Jenkins Field. He ran for 299 yards and three scores. He also had two catches for 23 yards.

Lane McAnally, Petersburg PORTA

The junior quarterback guided the Bluejays to a 44-20 Sangamo Conference road win over Auburn. He had a 15-yard TD run and pitched the ball to Bryce Davis, who raced 50 yards for a score in the first half. In the third quarter, McAnally tossed a 13-yard TD pass to Davis to give PORTA a commanding 30-13 lead. Davis finished with six receptions for 126 yards and McAnally was 11-for-15 for 193.

Chance Crissey, Auburn

The junior running back accounted for three touchdowns and finished with 173 rushing yards on 24 carries in Auburn’s loss to PORTA. Crissey scored from 4, 8 and 6 yards.

Cam Brinkman/Mikey Groesch, Sacred Heart-Griffin

The quarterback-running back duo combined for six touchdowns as SHG handled Southeast 63-0 in a Central State Eight Conference West Division game at Ken Leonard Field on Friday. Brinkman threw two TD passes to Andrew Wolters (37 and 60 yards) and in addition reached the end zone on the ground with runs of 28 and 29 yards. Groesch rumbled 72 and 29 yards on his two TDs. He also had an interception defensively.

Amony Anderson/Tytin Wells, Hillsboro

Anderson and Wells ran for two TDs apiece as Hillsboro improved to 3-3 in the South Central Conference with a 43-20 victory over North Mac in Virden. The Hiltoppers broke a 20-20 halftime score and outscored North Mac 23-0 in the second half. Anderson’s TDs went for 23 and 6 yards and Wells had TD runs of 5 and 2 yards. His touchdown runs were for 2-, 5- and 1-yards, respectively.

Michael Pecoraro, New Berlin

The senior running back rushed 10 times for 175 yards and caught two passes for 48 in New Berlin’s 48-32 victory over Stanford Olympia in the Sangamo Conference. The Pretzels improved to 4-2.

Brody Scheffler, Springfield High

The third-year senior signal-caller led the Senators to a fourth-straight win by passing for 167 yards and one touchdown — a 17-yard pass to his freshman brother Jacob Scheffler — on 14 of 26 passing. Then the QB ran for three more to help SHS beat Jacksonville 28-17 in a Central State Eight Conference West Division game at Kraushaar-Rosenberger Field on Friday.

Carlinville Offense

The Cavaliers racked up 521 yards of total offense and improved to 5-1 with a 48-35 victory over Litchfield in the South Central Conference. Quarterback Kip Reels completed an efficient 18 of 20 passes for 249 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Reels’ main target was Tate Duckels, who caught 10 balls for 154 yards and two TDs. Joel White did his damage on the ground, carrying the ball 36 times for 230 yards and four TDs.

Ethan Saathoff, Litchfield

The quarterback had 281 yards of offense in Litchfield’s loss to Carlinville. Saathoff rushed 19 times for 146 yards with an 8-yard TD run. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 135 yards with a pair of touchdown throws.

Carson Niemerg, Pleasant Plains

The senior reached 103 rushing yards on 18 carries in a 32-16 win over Riverton. Senior quarterback Xander Smith ran for two scores.

George Bailey, Kincaid South Fork

The senior totaled 324 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 26 carries in a 58-50 win over Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran. He averaged 12.5 yards per carry. Senior Brodey Vanhooser completed 10 of 16 passing attempts for 168 yards.
