What is Sprouts? Grocery stores are expanding in Florida

Want to eat healthier? Sprouts Farmers Market, an Arizona-based upscale grocery chain specializing in fresh, natural and organic food, has plans for Florida.

Last year, the chain announced a “significant expansion in 2025, with a large focus on Florida.” And the company came through with new Sprouts locations in Largo, Boynton Beach, Poinciana, Lutz, Deerfield Beach, Ocala, Venice and St. Petersburg.

But it’s not stopping there. So far, new Florida locations in 2026 include:

The company just opened its first location in New York last month, and plans to open dozens more stores by the end of 2026, Forbes reported.

What is Sprouts Farmers Market? Is Sprouts a grocery store?

Sprouts Family Market got its start from a San Diego fruit stand Henry Boney and his family operated in the 1940s and its kept that farmers market feel. The focal point and center of the small store is the expansive produce section, filled with fresh produce from local family-run farms (here are their Florida sources).

The self-proclaimed “healthy grocer” prioritizes organic foods and grass-fed beef and prohibits artificial dyes. Sprouts offers a deli counter, fresh sandwiches, fresh sushi, heat-and-eat meals, fresh baked goods and a selection of cheeses. You can also buy grains, nuts, dried fruits, chocolates and spices by the scoop, just like your ancestors did, in the bulk section.

The stores have an open layout with short shelves and a lack of marketer-designed grocery store tricks. Meat and other meal components are easy to find.

“We try to make it easy for customers to shop,” Laura Martino, Sprouts’ District Director for North Jersey and New York, told Forbes. “We want people to hunt for their next eating adventure.”

About a third of the stock is private label, including chicken broth, bread, black beans, and chicken and veggie chips. Sports also features a large beauty and wellness section with the chain’s private label line, Real Root.

The specialty market tries to make healthy living affordable for everyone. Sprouts promotes weekly and monthly deals, 72-hour sales, and Double Ad Wednesdays when shoppers get double the products on sale or two ads in one day.

What grocery items are available at Sprouts Farmers Market grocery stores?

Sprouts Farmers Market grocery store locations carry organic, plant-based and gluten-free items. Some product offerings include fresh produce, vitamins, Paleo diet items, gluten-free groceries, Keto diet items, “better-for-you” chips and sips, non-GMOs, bakery goodies, bread, vegan cookies, seafood and meat.

Other grocery store chains expanding in Florida

Meanwhile, The Winn-Dixie Company has plans to increase its focus on Florida, where the chain that became Winn-Dixie was founded in Miami in 1925. Stores outside Florida and Georgia will be closed, existing locations will be renovated into more community-friendly stores with a larger liquor store portfolio and more store-branded products, and new locations will be opened.

Publix is continuing to open new and renovated stores with their new, more shopper-friendly designs and amenities. There are two opening in March.

Trader Joe’s, a more upscale grocery destination, opened a location in Daytona Beach in November and another in Melbourne on Dec. 3.
