The two best teams in the second season of Unrivaled basketball meet tonight in the championship game. Some of the biggest stars in women’s basketball will take the court just outside Miami for the thrilling conclusion of the 3-on-3 league.
The Phantom (12-3) finished the regular season as the No. 1 seed and enter the finals on an eight-game winning streak. Kelsey Plum, who finished third in the league in scoring with 22.6 points per game, put up 31 in the team’s semifinal win over the Vinyl. An injury suffered in the regular-season finale will keep Aliyah Boston out of the final; Caitlin Clark’s running mate with the Indiana Fever in the WNBA was the Phantom’s second-leading scorer, the third-leading rebounder in Unrivaled and won Defensive Player of Year honors after leading the league in blocks.
On the other side is the Mist (11-4), headed by Unrivaled co-founder Breanna Stewart. They got a first-round bye but needed an incredible fourth-quarter comeback to stave off the upset-minded Breeze in the semifinals. Stewie led the charge from as many as 16 down with a game-high 23 points and lockdown defense against fellow UConn alum Paige Bueckers, while Arike Ogunbowale closed out the rally with a game-winning 3-pointer to set off the Barclays Center crowd.

The Phantom bested the Mist in both meetings during the regular season, winning 64-61 back in Week 2 before Kiki Iriafen’s 20 points led to an 83-71 victory on Feb. 7. This will be the final professional women’s basketball action of the year until the WNBA season begins, and with CBA negotiations with the players union not progressing so far, there’s no telling when that will be.
