On Sept. 1 at 7:03 p.m., gunshots were fired at an off-campus residence catering to students, Redpoint Tallahassee, located at 2636 Mission Road.
Tallahassee Police Department Watch Commander Damon Miller initially told the FSView that two people, a man and a woman, were shot at a “pool party.” They were hospitalized with “non-life threatening injuries as of right now.”
A third person, a man, also suffered at least one gunshot wound and later reported to the hospital.
As of late Monday evening, police were still on the scene and the investigation remains “open and active,” according to Miller.
In a “Community Update” email sent to Redpoint Tallahassee residents on Monday evening, the apartment complex’s Regional Manager, Roland Boudrias, stated that the safety of its residents was of the “utmost importance.”
“Firearms and other weapons are prohibited at Redpoint Tallahassee, as well as any violent conduct. This type of incident or similar threats will never be tolerated,” Boudrias said in the email. “As a reminder, residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests, as well. We will take swift action to exclude from the community any person who threatens the safety of others.”
Katie Colline, a resident of the Redpoint Tallahassee, was in her apartment when she heard gunshots.
“I just heard nine to 13 gun shots,” Colline said. “I looked out my window, because it’s right at the front [of the complex] and saw everyone running.”
Residents of the apartment that witnessed the incident said a number of cars sped away from the scene after the shots were fired.
The alleged shooting comes at a time where off-campus housing safety has been an increasing concern for Florida State University students.
Redpoint Tallahassee is marketed as a luxury student apartments: “Minutes from campus. Close to perfect.” The that The complex includes “a resort-style swimming pool and swim-up movie screen.”
This marks the third shooting at Redpoint Tallahassee within the past year and a half. In April 2024, one person was shot and injured at the pool deck located in the complex and in November 2024, a shooting at Redpoint Tallahassee led to one fatality.
The shooting is at least the second to occur this holiday weekend in Florida’s capital city. A man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries the evening of Aug. 30 at about 10 p.m. after a shooting near Liberty and Perry streets.
TPD said a person was arrested at the scene in connection to the shooting, but provided no other details.
