Tua Tagovailoa’s assertion that some players on the Miami Dolphins have been late or no-shows at players-only meetings has left others in the organization confused, according to a report.
“I’ve talked to people in Miami last night and this morning, I asked around about this, no one knows what the hell Tua is talking about,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said Monday as guest host of The Rich Eisen Show. “This is not an issue in the building.
“We talk about players-only meetings, we usually think ‘hey, we’re losing, we need to get the whole group together, call people out, whatever.’ They haven’t been doing that. They’ve been having defensive meetings where guys get together and watch tape, but that’s common in virtually every building. There’s been no issues with tardiness. There’s been no ongoing problems from a culture perspective. So in other words, Tua is outside of a building that — by virtue of their record, is doused in gasoline — and for reasons that remain completely unclear, he says ‘well, I’m just gonna light this match.'”
On Monday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa chose the wrong time and wrong forum to voice concerns about his teammates’ meetings habits. A few Dolphins players later said the same.
“Things that happen within the team should stay between the team,” center Aaron Brewer said.
“I think that’s something that we should handle internally,” offensive tackle Patrick Paul said. “I don’t think that we should be giving out all the details to that so I’m just going to keep that internal.”
When asked about handling those issues, Paul seemed exactly as confused as Pelissero described the organization as a whole.
“I don’t know, truth be told,” Paul said. “I think if there’s any issues that may arise, they are fixed in those, but I’m not really sure to be honest.”
Tagovailoa is set to speak to the media Wednesday after the team’s practice in preparation for a Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.
