Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter is still without a touchdown this season, on either side of the ball.
He still hasn’t caught more than six passes in one game, and that was in the opener, for a meager 33 yards.
But Hunter has a habit of showing one flash play on offense every game that exhibits his athleticism and skill.
It’s just a matter of the Jaguars finding a way for him to get more involved.
Hunter caught three passes for a season-high 64 yards in Monday Night’s 31-28 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at EverBank Stadium. He had two solo tackles and batted down a pass on defense.
Travis Hunter made his longest reception of the season
One of the receptions was a beauty.
Early in the third quarter, quarterback Trevor Lawrence was forced to scramble and threw the ball deep to Hunter over the middle, on the run. Hunter made the catch as he was getting pounded by Chiefs safety Bryan Cook, completing a 44-yard play that is Hunter’s longest of the season.
It was the spark in a touchdown drive to open the half, with Lawrence scoring on a 10-yard run to tie the score 14-14.
Jaguars got a scare later in the game
Hunter limped off the field early in the fourth quarter after covering Xavier Worthy on a deep pass. He stayed with Worth step-for-step, with Patrick Mahomes overthrowing him. Hunter was able to return to the game.
How many snaps did Travis Hunter have?
Hunter played 39 snaps on offense and 25 on defense, according to the updated NFL snap counts. For the second week in a row and the third time this season, he played more offense than defense.
Hunter has 198 offensive snaps and 122 on defense.
Hunter has 16 receptions for 182 yards and an 11.4-yard average on offense. He has nine tackles and four assists on defense.
