A 17-year-old was killed and two others were critically injured in a late-night crash Saturday on Thomasville Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 10:55 p.m. on U.S. Highway 319 near Amber Valley Drive in northeast Tallahassee, FHP wrote in its report.
Investigators said an 18-year-old driver from Thomasville, Georgia, was traveling southbound when the sedan veered onto the western shoulder, struck a culvert and became airborne. The vehicle then hit a utility pole and overturned before coming to rest on the shoulder.
A 17-year-old passenger from Thomasville was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and another 18-year-old passenger, from Pavo, Georgia, were transported to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare with critical injuries, according to FHP.
Troopers noted the driver and front passenger were wearing seat belts, while the rear passenger was not.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Assistance at the scene was provided by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County EMS and the Tallahassee Fire Department. The outside southbound lane of Thomasville Road was closed during the response.
