SATURDAY
Cross Country
With the greatest distance runner in Southwest Florida in attendance, Oasis senior star Jazlyn Forbes made a statement run to win the Fort Myers Invitational.
Fort Myers grad Krissy Gear’s professional track season is over, and she came home to watch a meet she won. What she saw was Forbes blast away from the field at the gun and build a lead of more than 200 yards to win. The soft conditions after a week of rain were the only thing capable of slowing Forbes down. Running 18:14 for the win, she dispatched former state champion Sienna Aubrey from CSN by 46 seconds.
“It went good, it went out pretty fast, but it was hot and humid today,” said a smiling Forbes of her victory.
More importantly, Forbes led an Oasis squad which is looking to make its mark as the top team in the area. A third-place finish by Madison Easton and a fourth by Lilliana Sipe helped the Sharks take the team title by four points over Venice.
“To see them come from their freshman year to their senior year and to come together as a unit and as individuals as well is really beautiful to see,” said Oasis assistant Andrew Salyer.
The boys race offered a little more suspense. Early on it was the Mariner duo of Argeo Cruz and Dylan Macias-Buenrostro followed closely by Naples No. 1 Reece Lolly and teammate Jonathan Rosas Santiago.
As the pack entered mid-race Cruz began to up the pace with a smile spread across his face as Macias-Buenrostro stayed on his hip.
“Man, the whole race I was telling him behind the woods, you have no idea how happy I am. I used to dream of times to be able to run with a brother like him,” Cruz said of his teammate.
With a half mile to go the two had built a 30-yard lead over Lolly while Fort Myers freshman Reed Hagen started a push to reel in the Naples senior.
Cruz and Macias-Buenrostro hit the finish line in a near dead heat as Lolly rallied to hold off Hagen.
“I talked to him (Macias-Buenrostro) two days before the meet and said you know the goal is to go one and two,” said Cruz.
And for Lolly, he was happy that his short-handed squad held off Fort Myers for the team title.
“It’s amazing, it’s the biggest rivalry, us and Fort Myers, but we’re always happy to beat Fort Myers,” said Lolly.

IMG State 54, Ida Baker 34: Nick Velez opened the scoring for Ida Baker with a 54-yard reception on the opening drive from quarterback Brody Root. Caelum Craigin had 3 total touchdowns, 2 receiving and 1 rushing. Nikolas Korf added a short touchdown run in the first quarter.
Brody Root had 285 yards passing on 16-of-27 attempts and 3 touchdowns. Craigin had 14 catches for 228 receiving yards and a 55-yard TD run to open the second half. Korf had 18 carries for 55 yards and his TD.
Baker led for most of the first half until the final 5 minutes of the first half when IMG scored on long pass plays on back-to-back drives. The defense struggled to contain the IMG quarterback.
“IMG had a great front on both sides of the ball, and that quarterback is legit, it’s probably the best line and best QB we’re going to face this season,” Ida Baker coach Cullen O’Brien said. “I loved how our kids fought and competed. The offense kept responding and moving the ball at will down the field on their defense. Every time IMG got the lead back we didn’t hang our heads, we got back out and kept battling. That alone is a huge improvement from where we were at last year. I’m proud of the effort we gave, our defense made a couple big stops and that kept us in it early. We were just a couple more stops away in the second half from having a chance to win this one.”

Gulf Coast 3, Barron Collier 0: The Sharks improved to 9-0 with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 win. Sophia Schultz led Gulf Coast with 10 kills and 5 aces. Adryel Solar added on 8 kills, and Juliette VanWagner followed up with 6 kills and 4 aces.
Canterbury 3, Bishop Verot 1: The Cougars got back in the win column in a big way, beating the Vikings in four sets (21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22). In the win, Charlotte Laquis posted 22 kills and 18 digs, with Molly Dunn dishing out 26 assists while adding 16 digs. In the loss for Verot, Hailey Printz and Carley Himschoot combined for 21 kills, with Sidney Blackwood adding 19 assists. Himscoot also had 26 digs, with Riley Hartley adding 24 digs.
SFCA 3, Evangelical Christian 1: In the win for the King’s, Gigi Noah tallied 19 kills. For the Sentinels, Hannah Cotè and Emma Blackwell combined for 25 kills. Reese Pool and Olivia Holt had 6 aces each.

Ida Baker def. Bonita Springs: Kaylee Marburger led the way for Baker with a 215, followed by Alyssa Auger, who bowled a new personal best of 177.

Oasis 3, Canterbury 0: The Sharks beat Canterbury for the first time in a dozen years, in a 25-15, 25-18, 25-9 decision. Ellye Henkle had a double-double, posting 27 digs and 10 kills. Jordan Baksh led all hitters with 11 kills. Tessa Bexfield and Lexie Skorzak commanded an incredibly balanced attack with 18 assists and 16 assists, respectively.

Estero 3, Bonita Springs 0: The Wildcats (8-0) won 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 over the Bull Sharks. Kassia Perkins and Brooke Smith led Estero with 9 kills and 3 blocks each. Delayna Kerry added 10 assists and 6 blocks for the Wildcats.
Gulf Coast 3, Palmetto Ridge 0: The Sharks (8-0) topped the Bears 25-12, 25-12, 25-15. Sophia Schultz had 10 kills and 4 aces, Juliette VanWagner added 9 kills and 10 digs, and Vanessa Lange had 24 assists and 4 aces.
Oasis 3, Ida Baker 2: The Sharks topped the Bulldogs in a five-set match 25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-12. Ellye Henkle led all attackers with 18 kills while Sophia Skala added 11 kills and 4 blocks. Tessa Bexfield and Lexie Skorzak had 30 and 22 assists, respectively.
Fort Myers 3, SFCA 1: The Green Wave defeated the King’s 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24. Zoe Sandadi (23 digs, 4 aces), Addi Sprecher (29 assists, 7 kills, 5 aces), and Olivia German (16 kills, 4 blocks, 8 digs) powered for Fort Myers.
ECS 3, Island Coast 0: The Sentinels swept the Gators 25-8, 25-7, 25-8. Hannah Coteé (13 kills, 3 aces), Reese Pool (12 aces, 10 assists), and Tenley Youngquist (3 blocks) led ECS.

Cypress Lake 3, Cape Coral 1: Jace McCrumb led the victorious Panthers (3-1) with a 202. Miles Kessinger topped Cape Coral with a 236.
Girls Bowling
Cypress Lake 3, Cape Coral 2: Mackenzy Stouffer led the unbeaten Panthers (4-0) with a 225. Elise Bissinger had the high score for Cape Coral with a 183.

SFCA 3, Babcock 2: SFCA won 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13. Sophomore outside Journey Cook led the King’s attack with 21 Kills. Senior Raegan Schenone tallied 7 of the King’s 23 aces.
