Drivers in the Leesburg area should prepare for lane closures as multiple roadway improvement projects are underway, according to a statement released by Commissioner Alan Reisman on social media.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced ongoing improvements on U.S. 441 and U.S. 27.

The work extends from Mills Street to College Drive and includes operational improvements and resurfacing all travel lanes, shoulders, and side street turnouts. The inside lane of northbound/westbound U.S. 441 has been closed from Michigan Avenue to the transition of the current left-turn lanes to State Road 44.
Additionally, the inside lane of southbound/eastbound U.S. 441 has been closed from approximately 500 feet south of SR 44 to near Nichols Drive.
Motorists should also note that the northbound/westbound turn at Nichols Drive is closed. The restrictions are expected to remain in place during this construction effort. Daytime work is scheduled from Sunday, Jan. 25 to Saturday, Jan. 31, 7 a.m. to 5:30 pm.
Roadwork will involve a southbound lane closure on U.S. 441 from Tomato Hill Road to Sleepy Hollow Road, and a northbound lane closure from Sleepy Hollow Road to Mark Road. This work will include bus bay construction and drainage improvements.
FDOT also is doing resurfacing work on U.S. 27 from County Road 33 to Middlesex Road. This project aims to extend the life of the roadway while also improving driving conditions.
Among the major updates on this project is the permanent closure of the “Y intersection” on the west side of U.S. 27 to County Road 25A.
Southbound motorists will now need to travel approximately 100 feet farther south to make a left turn onto CR 25A across from Saxon Road.
Lane closures along U.S. 27 will be implemented during the daytime from Monday, Jan. 26, to Friday, Jan. 30, where limited lane closures may be required to complete punch-list items and cleanup operations.
For those travelling overnight, lane closures will be in effect from Monday, Jan. 26, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for paving operations. Both northbound and southbound outside lanes will be closed during this time. The restrictions are expected to remain in place to facilitate the necessary road improvements.
Motorists are advised to anticipate reduced speeds and potential delays when navigating these areas. While access to businesses along these routes will be maintained, turning movements may be temporarily restricted during the construction period.
FDOT encourages all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and watch for construction crews and equipment within the work zones. Consider extra travel time and undertaking alternative routes.
