Why is New College of Florida suddenly flooding the media with self-promotional puff pieces?
It’s to distract from the bad news that New College President Richard Corcoran has steered the school into a nosedive, and it is now falling short on numerous levels.
That’s why Corcoran is seeking to deflect away from New College’s problems – and he has been assisted by the Florida Legislature and the Florida Board of Governors, who have seemingly condoned his failures.
New College’s mounting problems
But as New College’s problems continue to grow, it is difficult to turn a blind eye.
Here’s what has actually changed at New College since Corcoran took over in early 2023 – and since the Legislature gave him millions of additional money in taxpayer dollars:
If Florida wants to recapture the prestige of New College serving as a high-quality liberal arts school, it must bring in an experienced president to oversee the school and turn things around – or it should allow New College to move forward as a private institution.
If New College continues on its current path under Corcoran, it will only bring the school closer to a point of no return.
The Florida Legislature must step in before it is too late.
