What were the city of Pensacola’s big accomplishments in 2025, and what new initiatives are on tap in 2026?
Hear those answers directly from Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves when he presents his 2026 State of the City Address at 6 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Bayview Community Center located at 2001 E. Lloyd St.
Reeves has been giving the annual address in partnership with CivicCon each year since he was elected in November 2022, and at each event he highlights some of the work his administration is most proud of, some of the challenges the city has addressed and how, and what major goals the city is undertaking in the upcoming year.
In 2025, Pensacola launched Direction ’25, a $21.7 million investment into updating and upgrading city parks and facilities. It also unveiled plans for a new, 110-acre Hollice T. Williams Greenway and the details of a $5.9 million upgrade to add classrooms, a kitchen and more to the Fricker Center.
And just over a month into 2026, there is already significant change underway in the city.
In January Pensacola began a transformative project to remake Palafox Street into a more walkable space with wider sidewalks, more trees and better drainage. The city welcomed American Magic’s new Maritime Center for Excellence, a state of the art marine engineering facility at the Port of Pensacola, as well announced plans to bring Birdon, one of the world’s premier shipbuilders, to the port along with 2,000 high-paying jobs.
Reeves kicked off February by announcing his selection for the new chief of police.
