One of Pensacola’s top-ranked recruits has announced his verbal commitment.
Pensacola Catholic’s Trenton Henderson, one of the top EDGE rushers in the state and the nation, posted on social media on July 2 that he has committed to Louisiana State University ahead of his senior season. The decision comes after he released his top three schools on June 23.
Henderson chose the Tigers over other offers from Texas and Florida – which were the other two schools in his top three) – plus 31 other Division I offers, including the likes of Michigan, Alabama, FSU and Auburn.
The rising senior just had official visits to his top three schools, with LSU’s on May 30.
Henderson was ranked as the No. 4 recruit in Florida for the class of 2026 by the USA Today-Florida Network entering the summer, trailing just one other EDGE – Jake Kruel from IMG Academy, who as of July 2, hadn’t committed yet – becoming the Pensacola-area’s top-ranked recruit.
Henderson, standing at 6-foot-4, was also ranked as a five-star recruit from 247Sports. He was a 2024 PNJ First Team All-Area selection as a senior, as well.
He was among one of the most lethal defensive lines in the Pensacola area in 2024, joining the talents of Jeremiah Shelby, who’s currently with Air Force; Terius Mason, who signed with Georgia Military College; and Dacaris Brown, who’s also with Georgia Military College.
Henderson was sixth on the team in tackles with 50 (12 solo, 38 assisted), 18 of which were for a loss. He also had 10 sacks for a total loss of 110 yards and 20 quarterback hurries, plus six pass break-ups, a caused fumble, a fumble recovery for eight yards, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal.
Over three seasons, including his freshman year where Henderson played just two games, he’s recorded 90 tackles, 14 sacks, three caused fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Henderson led Pensacola Catholic to an 8-2 record to the 2024 season, including a pair of shutouts against Navarre and Pine Forest, before falling to Walton in the Region 1-2A quarterfinals at home.
The Crusaders, along with Henderson, appear to have reloaded on the defensive line with Jake Bates and Tristian Henderson, Trenton’s younger brother, lining up at EDGE, as well. Both have received Division I offers entering their sophomore years.
With the commitment from Henderson, he becomes one of a handful of names to announce his verbal commitment. Starting with Pace’s Grant Wise (Clemson) in the spring, other notable names include Kaiden Hall (Florida), Pine Forest’s Justin Weatherall (FAU), Milton’s David Aboya (Southern Miss), Pace’s Mason Mathis (USF) and Booker T. Washington’s Josiah Brown (Memphis).
