The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in northwest Tallahassee on Thursday night.
TPD spokesperson Damon Miller told the Democrat the pedestrian sustained severe injures in a “vehicle versus pedestrian” accident. Police are searching for the motorist that hit the pedestrian. No vehicle description was provided.
As of 8 p.m., police were on the scene of the crash in the area of Capital Circle Northwest and the 4400 block of West Tennessee Street.
A video posted on social media of the scene showed a person lying in the road as first responders rushed to provide aid and bring in a stretcher. Witnesses gathered on the sidewalk with what appears to be pieces of a vehicle and shoes nearby.
All eastbound lanes on West Tennessee Street were closed from Capital Circle Northwest to the 3700 block of West Tennessee Street, but were later reopened.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle’s crash dashboard, the accident was at least the 39th involving a pedestrian since the new year began. So far, there has been one pedestrian death, the agency reports.
