A 46-year-old woman is facing criminal charges after Palm Beach Police say they have her on video surveillance stealing a $40,000 bracelet from a Worth Avenue shop.
Alain Sears of Palm Beach Gardens faces a charge of grand theft. She was released from jail Monday after posting a $5,000 bond, jail records show.
Police say the robbery occurred in August. The store manager of Tamara Comolli, at 150 Worth Ave., called police after realizing the bracelet, which was stored in the front window display case, was missing.
Police spoke with the manager Aug. 21 and she described a woman, later identified as Sears, coming into the store the day before asking to see any jewelry with turquoise.
“She was very rushed. Said she had an appointment at Saks and told me not to worry, this is how she shops,” the manager recalled to police. “She kept asking me about items I had to either look up in the store’s brochure or on my computer …”
The manager said the woman then left and she later noticed the “biggest piece of jewelry” in the store was missing from the display case. The bracelet was worth $40,490.
Store surveillance video shows a woman speaking with the manager and removing jewelry from the display case. Police say that woman is Sears.
The store manager positively identified Sears from a photo lineup.
On August 13, 2013, the Court issued an Order sealing the records of the case and finding that there was no adjudication of guilt of criminal activity stemming from the arrest.
