Over the summer heat? You will have to wait a while; here’s when Florida gets cold again

If you’re dreaming about when you can break out the sweaters and order a hot coffee without sweating, here’s what to know about the upcoming fall season and when it actually gets cold in Florida.

When does summer end in 2025? Here’s when fall begins

We still have two more months of summer to enjoy!

The season officially ends on Monday, Sept. 22, which is the first official day of the autumnal equinox.

What is the autumnal equinox?

Every season, we celebrate either an equinox or a solstice (there are two of each). The other equinox is celebrated in the spring, called the vernal equinox.

The National Weather Service defines an equinox as when the Earth’s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun, which means nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness.

How cold does it get during Florida’s fall season?

Autumn temperatures are typically anything but fall-like for most of the season, so don’t expect sweater weather for a few months. And remember, we still have to get through the rest of hurricane season.

According to NOAA, the state usually sees high humidity with dew points in the mid-60s to mid-70s, along with high temperatures in the mid-80s to lower 90s persisting well into October. It’s not until mid-October into November that the state starts to get the first feel of cooler, drier air.

For those wanting to go straight to the chilly weather, you’ll have to wait for winter.

Typically, winter weather in Florida lasts from December to February, with the height of cold temperatures and frozen iguana warnings in January.

What is typically the coldest month in Florida?

According to the records kept by the National Weather Service, the coldest month in Florida is January, with an average temperature of 61 degrees throughout the month.

When is daylight saving time?

Is it too early to think about daylight saving time? Not really.

Daylight saving time for 2025 began at 2 a.m. ET Sunday, March 9, for “spring forward” and ends at 2 a.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 2, for “fall back.”

When will hurricane season 2025 end?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.

An average Atlantic hurricane season has 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes. Tropical activity picks up between mid-August and mid-October, with the peak of the season occurring Sept. 10.

Here’s when this year’s named storms have developed as July 11, compared to historical averages:
