A 91-year-old Daytona Beach Shores man died on Monday, Oct. 6, when his vehicle ran off the road near Sanford and hit a guardrail, causing it to overturn, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred on Interstate 4 near the State Road 46 overpass at 10:05 a.m., investigating troopers said.
The Daytona Beach Shores man was eastbound on I-4 and, for unknown reasons, ran off the road on approaching the SR 46 overpass. His Honda Accord hit a median guardrail and overturned. The Honda also collided with a Mercedes-Benz that was stopped in the eastbound left turn lane to SR 46 troopers said.
The Daytona Beach Shores man died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 21-year-old woman from Sanford, was not injured, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
