Mike Norvell: Multiple injured FSU players are 'trending in a great way'

Florida State, like every team in college football, is battling some injuries during fall practice, however, head coach Mike Norvell shared some good news on Sunday night following FSU’s second scrimmage. Norvell revealed that defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins and offensive lineman Jacob Rizy were both able to participate.

“Jayson Jenkins got some work tonight,” he said. “Him and Jaocb Rizy, who were both out with injuries this spring, still trying to track what it was going to look like and what it was going to be. Both those guys got live work tonight. Kudos to our athletic training staff, kudos to those kids for the work they put in. They’re trending in a great way.”

Jenkins was one of FSU’s biggest additions of the offseason and is expected to compete for a starting spot along the defensive line. He was a reserve for the Tennessee Volunteers last season, recording nine tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks.

He was ranked as the No. 135 player and No. 19 defensive lineman in the portal by 247Sports. The Lawrenceville, New Jersey, product is one of eight four-star prospects the Seminoles signed.

Rizy is expected to be a key reserve for the Seminoles in 2025 after playing both guard spots last season. He started his career at Harvard, where he played tackle. That versatility could be important for the Seminoles, which lack proven depth behind their starting five.
