Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel hot seat: He's high on list of NFL coaches who won't last

We are barely into July and NFL training camps are still two weeks from opening. But the good folks at SportsBetting.ag have unveiled their annual list of coaches whose employment might not last the 2025 season.

To no one’s surprise, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is high on that list. The Dolphins are coming off a season in which they underachieved, failed to make the playoffs – and the off-season has not been kind. Numerous veterans who have contributed to the success Miami had in the past few seasons are history – left tackle Terron Armstead (retired), defensive end Calais Campbell (signed with Arizona), cornerback Jalen Ramsey (traded to Pittsburgh) and running back Raheem Mostert (signed with Las Vegas).

On paper, the Dolphins do not appear to be improved over last season while the rest of the AFC East has gotten better. You have to look long and hard to find someone who thinks Miami will be one of the AFC’s surprise playoff teams.

McDaniel, who had 33/1 odds to be fired at this time last year after leading Miami to the postseason in his first two seasons, is second on the board at 5/1 looking ahead to the 2025 season. That trails the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll, who is 4/1 to be axed during the season. Shane Steichen (Indianapolis), Kevin Stefanski (Cleveland) and Jonathan Gannon (Arizona) round out the Top 5.

On the opposite end, the coaches with the best job security are Kansas City’s Andy Reid and Philadelphia’s Nick Siriani, coaches of the teams that met in the Super Bowl in February and should be contenders again. They are both 500/1 to get the pink slip from their respective owners.
