More than 36 million pounds of frozen, not-ready-to-eat chicken products, including chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products, sold at Trader Joe’s have been recalled because they may contain glass, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said this week.
The recall has been dramatically expanded since the initial recall on Feb. 19. Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. of Portland, Oregon, is recalling a combined total of 36,987,575 pounds of food, the USDA said Tuesday, March 3.

The company discovered the problem after numerous consumer complaints about glass in the food, the USDA said.
“Upon further investigation, the establishment determined that a vegetable source ingredient, specifically carrots, was the likely source of the glass contamination, which also impacted the additional products subject to this expanded recall,” the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product, the USDA said. The company said the voluntary recall was out of an abundance of caution.
“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers,” the agency said in a news release. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
Which Trader Joe’s items were recalled?
The 16 new products in the recall were produced between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026, under brand names Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe’s, and bear establishment number P-18356, P-18356B, or P-47971 inside the USDA mark of inspection, the FSIS said.
Four of the recalled products are sold at Trader Joe’s, the company said in a news release:

Costco ramen bowls also recalled
Also on March 3, Costco alerted its members that Shoyu Ramen Bowls sold at their warehouses were also being recalled for potential glass contamination. The affected products are coded with best buy dates from 05/20/2026 to 07/05/2027.
What should I do if I bought any of the recalled items?
Stop using them immediately and return them for a refund at the retail store where you bought them. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider, the USDA said.
The FSIS advises consumers to discard the products or return them to the store for a refund.
