Charlie Woods turned his second round at the 49th Junior PGA Championships into a birdie-fest at Purdue University’s Kampen-Cosler Course.
Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 66 (6-under) in the second round on July 30 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
He totaled nine birdies in the round and entered the clubhouse in fourth place at 7-under for the tournament.
Woods shot 31 on the front nine thanks to six birdies and a lone bogey. He carded three more from holes No. 12-15 before handing a couple strokes back with bogeys on No. 16 and 17.
The stellar second round came on a course that Purdue University touts as “one of the most difficult courses in Indiana.”
Kampen-Cosler is a links-style course with championship tees playing over 7,400 yards. The course features a variety of waste bunkers and man-made wetlands as well as natural grasslands and a celery bog.
The Kampen-Cosler has a course rating of 76.5 and a slope rating 146.
The Junior PGA Championships are comprised of two 72-hole stroke play tournaments for boys and girls junior amateur golfers. This year’s boys and girls tournaments will each feature 156 golfers, respectively.
The tournament will cut to the top 60 plus ties after Wednesday’s second round. It will cut down to the top 30 plus ties after the third round on Thursday.
