It was a rough night for Arkansas coach John Calipari.
Calipari’s Razorbacks suffered a 111-77 loss at the hands of No. 7 Florida basketball on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the O’Connell Center, matching the worst loss of his career, which came at the hands of Duke (118-84 on Nov. 6, 2018).
“I wish it would have gone faster,” Calipari said.
The atmosphere from a frenzied sellout crowd spilled over to emotions on the floor and on benches, as Calipari and Florida Gators coach Todd Golden were whistled for double technicals in the second half after a heated argument.
When asked what happened to cause the double technicals, Calipari responded: “Who knows? We’re both competitors. He’s done a great job. I can tell you, he out-coached me today.”
Golden also declined to elaborate on what caused the technical.
“The tech, both of us were just coaching our team,” Golden said. “He’s obviously a Hall of Fame coach, an incredible coach and we’re just out there competing. I don’t think either of us thought twice about it after it happened, but it was a little bit part of the game tonight.”
Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile also was whistled for a Flagrant 1 foul for a hard shot to the back of Florida point guard Boogie Fland later in the second half. Brazile and Fland were teammates with the Razorbacks last season before Fland opted to enter the transfer portal and come to Florida.
