Jaguars bring back TE Quintin Morris on new deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars are bringing back one of their own players, re-signing tight end Quintin Morris ahead of free agency’s opening on March 11 at 4 p.m, a league source confirmed to the Times-Union on Wednesday.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz was first to report the deal, which he says is a one-year contract extension for Morris. The deal is worth up to $3 million, according to Schultz.

Morris originally signed with the Jaguars in May last year before spending time on the team’s practice squad during the regular season. After being elevated multiple times from the team’s practice squad, Morris was signed to the team’s 53-man roster.

Morris played in 14 games for the Jaguars, starting five. He caught six passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Morris spent the first three years of his career with the Buffalo Bills after signing with the franchise as an undrafted free agent out of Bowling Green following the 2021 NFL Draft.

Morris’ retention is the latest among a few players the Jaguars have brought back. Thus far, the team has announced they’ve re-signed both defensive lineman Matt Dickerson and running back DeeJay Dallas. The team also exercised cornerback Christian Braswell’s exclusive rights free agent tender.

Morris’ role with the Jaguars expanded as the season progressed last year. Morris began the year primarily as a special teams player before earning a bigger role on offense as a blocker and another receiving option for quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

“I really appreciate Quintin Morris. I really respect his journey, the way that he’s continued to help our team win regardless of what the role is. And it started really big on special teams and gaining the trust of [special teams coordinator] Heath [Farwell] and [assistant special teams coach] Luke [Thompson] and myself and the staff on teams,” Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said in January when asked about Morris.

“And then boom, you go on offense and do a good job when your number’s called and that’s what all we can really ask for.”

The new league year is set to begin on March 11 at which point, the Jaguars will need to make quicker decisions when it comes to their impending free agents.
