The Jacksonville Jaguars missed defensive end Travon Walker last week after the former first-overall pick missed Monday Night Football due to a wrist injury.
Walker had a procedure done on the wrist after injuring it during the team’s Week 4 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Walker practiced limited on Saturday ahead of the Week 5 game after missing the previous two days of practice.
This week, Walker was seen again at the team’s open practice period and was officially listed as limited.
Last week, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Walker’s availability last week was going to come “down to the wire.”
“We’re going to go right down to the wire with it. We will. I mean, it’s just as much as he can keep getting the swelling and all that stuff. It’s just a matter of that. So, I trust that if he says he can go, then we’ll go,” said Coen.
The Jaguars do not often comment on injuries during the week, often letting the practice report speak for itself. Walker’s status this week will likely not be known until game day.
The Jaguars are dealing with numerous injuries this week, including to the team’s starting tight end. Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange was placed on injured reserve due to a quad injury sustained against the Chiefs on Monday night. Strange had been the team’s top pass catcher this season.
On Monday, Coen suggested that Monday night just wasn’t the right time for Walker to suit back up.
“Yeah, he had some swelling still in there. So, it just wasn’t the right time. It was only seven days, whatever it was, seven days out of the surgery. So, it wasn’t something that any of us felt comfortable being able to go put him out there last night. Not sure what that’ll look like this week yet,” said Coen.
“He was definitely feeling better towards last night, like towards yesterday but it just wasn’t the right thing to do, putting him in that game so soon. So hopeful for this week, and we’ll have to see what that swelling does and based on when the stitches can come out. I think some of that will help us know what his availability will be.”
