Isa Torres builds GOAT case for FSU softball. Is she already? Vote now

When Isa Torres’ career is complete, she will be etched into Florida State softball history. The only real question is how prominently.

Is Torres merely one of the program’s greats under Lonni Alameda — or is she the standard?

That distinction is worth examining now, even if it risks sounding like a prisoner-of-the-moment argument. What the junior shortstop is producing this season isn’t just dominant. It borders on unprecedented, both within the ACC and nationally. And if it continues into a Women’s College World Series run, the conversation won’t just be fair — it may be settled.

A season rarely seen

Torres isn’t simply having a good year. The newly crowned ACC Player of the Year is authoring one of the most statistically overwhelming seasons in school history.

Through 159 at-bats, she’s hitting .546 — a number that, if sustained, would shatter Florida State’s single-season record of .432. She’s already compiled 88 hits, putting her on pace to eclipse the program’s mark of 99, while also threatening records in slugging percentage and home runs.

The advanced numbers are just as staggering. Torres ranks among the ACC leaders in nearly every major category: a .603 on-base percentage, a 1.019 slugging percentage and a 1.622 OPS. Those are video game figures in a conference known for elite pitching.

And then there are the moments that elevate a great season into something historic.

In March, Torres set an NCAA record with 16 consecutive hits — 16-for-16 over a stretch that defies logic at this level. She followed it with a streak of reaching base safely in 23 consecutive plate appearances, the third-longest run in NCAA history.

Just as impressive is what she’s done defensively. Torres has not committed an error all season, anchoring the infield with a perfect fielding percentage as a shortstop. For a player carrying such an offensive load, that level of defensive consistency only strengthens her case.

Context matters — especially in the postseason

Florida State has no shortage of legends. From Jessica van der Linden to Lacey Waldrop, Jessie Warren and Sydney Sherill, the Seminoles have produced national players of the year and championship anchors. Greatness in Tallahassee isn’t measured solely in numbers; it’s defined by postseason impact.

That’s the final piece of Torres’ argument.

If she guides Florida State on a deep run in Oklahoma City — or better yet, delivers a national title while maintaining anything close to this pace — her season won’t just be memorable. It will be transformational.

Fair or not, the sport’s ultimate measure still comes in June. Torres has already built a résumé worthy of national player of the year consideration. Matching it with postseason hardware would elevate her from elite to undeniable.

The verdict — for now

It may still be early to unanimously crown Torres as the greatest in Florida State history. Careers, not two months, typically decide that label.

But it’s no longer premature to say she’s making the strongest single-season case the program has ever seen.

And if this trajectory continues, the question won’t be whether Isa Torres belongs in the conversation.

It will be whether anyone else still does.
