Holly Hill man was doing 91 mph at time of the crash
Jacobs carjacked another man at the American Inn motel on Dec. 14, 2023. He then sped north on Ridgewood Avenue until he reached the intersection of Mason Avenue.
Jacobs was driving 91 mph when he ran a red light at Mason and crashed into the side of a pickup.
The pickup was driven by Chi Nguyen, who had just left his church where he had helped put up Christmas lights.
The impact smashed the truck inward and sent it tumbling, ending up on its side.
Nguyen died at the scene of the crash.
Circuit Judge Kathryn Weston presided over the trial at the S. James Foxman Justice Center in Daytona Beach.
Assistant State Attorneys Ashley McCarthy and Paiton Mielle prosecuted the case.
Jacobs was represented by defense attorney Candace Hawthorne.
