The Florida State Seminoles are one of the best surprises of the 2025 football season, starting it 2-0 and becoming the No. 9 team in the country. While they have had a better season than most expected, some teams are underperforming, and two Power Four programs have already fired their head coaches.
With the UCLA Bruins firing DeShaun Foster and the Virginia Tech Hokies firing Brent Pry, the Seminoles are looking to take advantage on the recruiting trail. They already have a visit scheduled with former UCLA defensive line commit Yahya Gabb, and were already trying to flip offensive tackle Johnnie Jones, who is now back on the market.
They are also going after four-star offensive tackle Thomas Wilder, who was committed to Virginia Tech before backing off his pledge on Sunday. According to Brian Dohn of 247Sports, FSU has shown “interest” in the Virginia Beach, Virginia, product.
They are far from the only school, with Missouri, Indiana, Penn State, North Carolina, and Maryland also getting involved. The Seminoles will have their work cut out for them; they have yet to offer him a scholarship or host him on a visit. He took official visits to Maryland, Penn State, and North Carolina before committing to Virginia Tech.
Wilder is ranked as the No. 329 overall player and No. 33 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 9 player from Virginia.
Offensive line coach Herb Hand has built a solid offensive line class with Da’Ron Parks, Jakobe Green, Mike Ionata, and Luke Francis committed, but is looking to add more and has kept working on a few targets, especially at tackle. It will be tough, but Wilder would be a strong addition to the group and give them a second four-star prospect along with Parks.
