FSU is once again turning to a transfer quarterback to start, giving the keys of the offense to Tommy Castellanos.
He is a perfect fit for the offense, which is now run by new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who loves to run the ball and is at his best with a mobile quarterback who can push the ball downfield. Castellanos loves to do both of those things and should be asked to do both regularly.
Castellanos, who spent the past two seasons with the Boston College Eagles, has experience in a Malzahn offense, playing for him as a freshman at UCF before transferring to Boston College to start. He generated plenty of big plays in 2023, as well as lots of turnovers, before struggling in 2024 and ultimately getting benched after they brought in Bill O’Brien and switched to a pro-style offense. That caused him to reenter the transfer portal, where Mike Norvell and the Seminoles prioritized him and quickly secured him.
He has not been shy about expressing his confidence in the Seminoles ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and how much it means for him to wear the Garnet and Gold. While he appears to have a better supporting cast than he is used to, the Seminoles have a ton of new pieces on offense, and he will have to elevate his play.
