Florida State landed a huge commitment when four-star cornerback Jay Timmons flipped from the Auburn Tigers. On Sunday, they got an even bigger one as five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon has committed to FSU.
This is a massive pledge for the Seminoles and a big-time win on the recruiting trail. They were able to beat out the Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, and the Oregon Ducks for Kennon despite a 2-10 campaign last season. Also, he’s the second blue-chip commit of the month to add to four-star defensive lineman Earnest Rankins.
With Kennon committed, Florida State has done a good job in the secondary for the 2026 cycle. Along with the aforementioned Timmons, Kennon joins four-star safeties Tedarius Hughes and Darryl Bell III and three-star safety Sean Johnson. The Seminoles have 22 commitments in the class.
Kennon is the No. 69 player nationally and the No. 8 cornerback in the country per 247Sports composite rankings. When it comes to prospects in the state of Florida, Kennon is ranked No. 9 overall.
FSU has been consistent with its pursuit of the Sarasota, Florida product since making him an offer in May of 2024. After attending Florida State’s Elite Camp last June, he was in Tallahassee for the Seminoles’ game against Boston College last September. Kennon has made four trips to see FSU in 2025. Two of them were in June, which included his last official visit on June 13.
Kennon was productive on both sides of the ball as a junior at Booker High School. He registered 33 tackles, one interception, 16 pass breakups, and one forced fumble. As a wide receiver, Kennon hauled in 10 receptions for 317 yards and six scores.
Florida State has completely changed its status in the recruiting rankings since June. Four-star linebacker Rodney Colton Jr. is another big commitment they’re in the running for next week.
