What time was the crash? Approximately 8:35 p.m. Feb. 8.

Where was the pedestrian hit? County Road 484 and Southeast 47th Avenue.

What happened? Troopers said an older model Nissan Rogue, driven by a 47-year-old woman from Ocklawaha, was eastbound in the left lane of CR 484. The pedestrian, described as a man, was walking north, attempting to cross the eastbound lanes.

Officials said the man was just east of the 47th Avenue intersection. The driver did not see the walker and the SUV struck the man.

The woman stopped on the grassy median. Officials said she called 911 to report the incident.

Marion County Fire Rescue officials arrived at the location and transported the victim to HCA Florida Ocala, where he was pronounced deceased shortly before 9:30 p.m. The driver was not injured, troopers said.

A witness told troopers that the victim was walking north on CR 484 across the eastbound lanes. The witness also said the crash occurred in the left lane.

Troopers on Feb. 9 were still trying to determine the man’s name and notify his family.

The death was the third traffic fatality of the year investigated by FHP in unincoorporated Marion.

FHP officials anyone with any information about the victim can call *FHP or (904) 359-6572, option 8.
