The Miami Dolphins are promoting Bobby Slowik from senior passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Slowik, 38, spent six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers early in his coaching career before emerging as one of the NFL’s fastest rising assistants when he took over as the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator in 2023. In Slowik’s first season with the team, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after finishing the year with 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.
But the Texans offense plateaued in Slowik’s second season, as Stroud’s touchdown total decreased to 20 and his interceptions more than doubled to 12.
Slowik was fired and spent the 2025 season coaching the Dolphins’ pass game. In Stroud’s first season without Slowik, the quarterback’s regression continued, culminating in a playoff loss that saw the third-year passer throw four interceptions.
The Dolphins appear set to move on from Tua Tagovailoa, leaving more questions than answers at the quarterback position. Aside from Tagovailoa, the only passers under contract for the 2026 season are Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller. Miami finished the 2025 season No. 25 in points scored, No. 26 in offensive yardage, and No. 25 in passing yardage.
