Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane may be his team’s lone bright spot of Week 1.
While his opportunities were limited due to the Dolphins’ need to pass in the 33-8 blowout loss, he was efficient and able to find success when called upon.
Achane finished the day with seven carries for 55 yards (7.9 yards per carry) with his longest carry going for 26 yards. He also caught three passes for 20 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown on a fourth down that showed his refusal to quit during a rough day.
If the game was closer and the Dolphins could’ve utilized the running game, Achane likely would’ve cruised to a 100-yard day.
It’s an encouraging start for Achane who appears fully capable of shouldering a consistent heavy load on the Dolphins offense this season.
Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright will also have their opportunities on Mike McDaniel’s offense, but it will be difficult to take carries away from Achane if he is able to sustain his stellar yards per carry clip. Achane averaged an incredible 7.8 yards per carry for the season during his rookie campaign in 2023 and is off to a similar start in 2025.
Achane showed once again how multi-dimensional of an offensive weapon he is, making plays out of the backfield and racking up yards after the catch.
With the Dolphins set to play three consecutive divisional matchups, prioritizing Achane’s role in the offense is paramount in order to take some attention away from Tua Tagovailoa, who turned the ball over three times Sunday.
