The Jacksonville Jaguars were hit with their most serious injury of the season so far when the team announced that tight end Brenton Strange would be placed on the injured reserve list.
Strange injured his hip late in the first half of the Jaguars ‘ 31-28 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night at EverBank Stadium and did not return. He caught one pass for 22 yards and is the team’s receiving leader with 20 catches for 204 yards. He was already halfway to his 40 receptions of 2024, for 411 yards.
Strange, a third-year player from Penn State and a second-round draft pick in 2023, also had been a force in the team’s running game as a blocker and on pass protection.
Strange could be replaced by a committee of tight ends, offseason free-agent acquisitions Hunter Long and Johnny Mundt and Quinton Morris. Long has caught two touchdown passes among his seven receptions for 44 yards and Mundt has two catches for 14 yards.
Jaguars re-sign Tim Jones
In other moves, the Jaguars may have shored up their special teams with the re-signing of wide receiver Tim Jones to the practice squad. The team released wide receiver Erik Ezukanma.
Jones was with the Jaguars for four years from 2021-2024 and caught 17 passes for 154 yards. He had six special-teams tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Jaguars did not re-sign Jones and he latched on with the Minnesota Vikings. He played two games before being waived.
Jones played at Southern Miss with 150 receptions for 2,011 yards and nine touchdowns in 39 games.
