With Ernie Sims as the new linebackers coach, the Florida State Seminoles have added multiple players at the position in the transfer portal. However, the Seminoles desperately need to fix their recruiting woes at linebacker on the high school level.
Over the weekend, FSU held its first Junior Day event of the year, and three-star prospect Jake Godfree was in attendance. After spending time with Sims and some recruiting from 2027 linebacker commit Gregory Batson, Godfree can see himself playing in Tallahassee.
“The experience was amazing!” Godfree told Rivals. “Very grateful for the whole FSU staff, they make every visit feel like home. I’m excited to see how they do this season and continue building our relationship. I love the way they strive to get me on campus. Talking with Coach Sims really gets me excited for the road ahead and how Linebackers play a lot of roles in their defensive scheme.
“Excited for the future ahead.”
Godfree got an offer from Florida State just before his sophomore year in June of 2024 after attending their Elite Camp. He was also present for their Elite Camp last June, and he took an unofficial visit back in October when FSU played the Miami Hurricanes.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pounder has been a tackling machine over the last two seasons. He racked up 129 tackles with 19 tackles for loss as a sophomore, per MaxPreps. Godfree would also produce six sacks, two interceptions, two pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Godfree was all over the field as a junior, as he registered 141 tackles with 18 tackles for loss. He also put up eight sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked punt.
Rivals’ industry rankings have Godfree as the No. 486 recruit nationally and the No. 33 linebacker. He’s also the No. 54 prospect in the state of Georgia.
