Davante Adams may be among the newest players on the Los Angeles Rams, but he’s also one of the most experienced. Adams has 11 NFL seasons under his belt heading into 2025, while the rest of the Rams’ receivers have a combined for that many years in the league.
So when he’s out on the practice field, Adams serves both as a teacher and a student among the rest of the Rams pass-catchers learning the offense.
One young receiver has stood out to Adams during his first week in camp: Seventh-round rookie Konata Mumpfied. Adams told reporters at training camp over the weekend that he feels like “a proud dad watching him out there” because of how Mumpfied continues to learn and grow his game in such a short amount of time.
“I’ve seen stuff from even Konata since he’s been out here and that’s opened my eyes, not necessarily like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never seen that’, but its him changing up his pace and working through some things, seeing some of the errors and the trial and error I guess I could say,” Adams said. “Even over the course of three practice days, how he can transform and go and kill some of our better corners on some amazing routes. It’s fun for me just watching the growth of him, talking through it, seeing somebody fail, doing something a certain way and then going out there and knocking it out of the park. I feel like a proud dad watching him out there.”
Adams isn’t just the elder statesman of the group; he’ll be tasked with leading the pass-catchers on and off the field. Puka Nacua is already letting Adams run the receiver drills at practice out of respect for his experience and production in the NFL.
The combination of Nacua and Adams could be deadly for Matthew Stafford, even after two years of Nacua and Kupp. Adams provides a whole new level to play-making from the receiver position, and his understanding of the position should raise the skill level for the rest of the young group in 2025.
